On Sunday 8th March 2020 the Italian government has adopted additional controls to stop the further spreading of the coronavirus epidemic. There is some confusion regarding these restrictions and we would like to clarify as follows:
- The limitations apply to the region of Lombardy (which includes the cities of Milan, Bergamo and Como) and the provinces of Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia and Rimini (all in Emilia Romagna); Pesaro e Urbino (in Marche); Alessandria, Asti, Novara, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and Vercelli (all in Piemonte); Padova. Treviso and Venice (in Veneto) and is only for the movement of people.
- Movement of people inside these areas and inside and outside shall be limited, except for working and urgent sanitary reasons.
- No limitations to freight transport: goods are allowed to travel.
- Across the whole of Italy, museums and cultural institutions are closed and all sporting fixtures must be played behind closed doors. Childcare facilities, schools and universities are closed until 15 March. Public and social gatherings should be avoided with cinemas, pubs and clubs closed. Restaurants and bars remain open with reduced seating.
Working with our Italian partners Viamaster International will continue to support our client requirements for freight movements to and from the controlled areas, and will provide further updates accordingly.
If you have any specific questions please do not hesitate to speak with your usual operational contact.
