In December 2019 Chris and James of team “Hell Oar High Water (HOHW) will be undertaking a challenge of a lifetime. These two Yorkshire lads from Bradford will be braving the elements and rowing 3,000+ nautical miles, unsupported, from La Gomera, Canary Islands to Antigua in the Caribbean as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. To put their epic journey into some sort of perspective, more people have been into space, than have rowed the Atlantic!

Viamaster International are proud to support theses local lads in their challenge, who in turn aim to raise £50,000 for each of the three charities below

“We are not ex/serving military, athletes or adventurers - we didn't even have any rowing or ocean experience until a long time after we had signed up. Yet we believe that anyone can achieve the unthinkable and make a difference regardless of their background or perceived ability, and we hope to demonstrate this through our row, whilst raising money and exposure for our chosen charities. ”

The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is, without a doubt, the world’s toughest rowing race. Chris and James will each burn over 10,000 calories per day whilst only taking in 6,000. They will lose 20% of their bodyweight before they cross the finish line – not to mention contending with the 50ft waves, sleep deprivation, salt sores and sharks!

“We first started talking about taking part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge over four years ago now. It was an idea that snowballed and was one that we just couldn’t shake. The opportunity to challenge ourselves and show that anything is possible played a huge part in our decision to finally sign up to the challenge. That was almost 2 years ago.”

It takes a certain sort of person to be able to cope with the physicality’s of a row such as this, the punishment will be relentless. Typically, 2 hours rowing, 2 hours rest, day and night, non-stop until they complete their mission. Their bodies will change and become weak, but their mind will have to stay strong.
